nuTonomy and Lyft Launch Boston Self-Driving Pilot

Earlier this year, nuTonomy and Lyft announced a partnership focused on bringing nuTonomy vehicles to the Lyft network in Boston. Today, we’re pleased to announce that passengers in Boston’s Seaport district were able to experience self-driving rides on the Lyft network in nuTonomy vehicles. As the pilot progresses, select Boston passengers in Seaport area will be matched with nuTonomy self-driving vehicles when they request rides through the Lyft app.

Our partnership with Lyft has two goals.  First, we want to let members of the public experience driverless vehicles firsthand, so they can better understand the impact this new technology will have on their lives. Second, based on feedback from pilot participants, nuTonomy’s engineers will adapt and improve our system, so that we can deliver an autonomous transportation experience that is extremely safe, efficient, and comfortable.

Today’s rides represent yet another milestone in nuTonomy’s banner year. These rides mark the first-ever public pilot between a ridesharing company and an autonomous vehicle company in the United States.  Our pilot with Lyft also comes on the heels of nuTonomy’s own public passenger pilot, which we launched earlier this month.

We’re excited to take another stride toward the future of urban mobility. Through partnerships with fantastic brands like Lyft, we’re assembling a robust autonomous vehicle ecosystem — one that will make safe and inexpensive transportation available to individuals in cities worldwide.

Check back for more updates on this in the coming weeks!
